A data analytics engagement begins with a written analysis plan: the questions the client needs answered, the datasets that bear on those questions, the techniques proposed, and what the output will look like in the hands of the decision audience. A senior analyst then ingests the client and external data, cleanses and joins it in Python or SQL, and runs the agreed techniques. Statistical methods and, where the data supports them, machine learning techniques are applied.

The output is a visual layer (dashboards, charts, written narrative) sized for an executive audience, with the underlying workbook and code available to in-house technical staff for reuse. The intent is to leave the client with something refreshable, not a one-off report that dies on a shared drive once it has been read.

We do not describe the work as "AI-powered" without being specific about the technique applied. Predictive output carries validation and uncertainty bands. The analytical narrative says what the data supports and, equally, what it does not.

How long, how priced

Data analytics engagements are most often priced as fixed-fee projects against a written scope. The scope sets out the analytical questions, the datasets in play, the techniques agreed, and the deliverable pack. Where the work is exploratory and the data landscape is uncertain at the outset, an initial diagnostic phase is priced separately so that the main scope is built on what the data actually looks like.

Ongoing analytics retainers are available where dashboards need to be refreshed on a defined cadence, or where the client wants a senior analyst on call as new datasets become available. Retainer terms are agreed against the volume of refresh activity and the level of analytical interpretation required.

We do not bill against opaque hourly arrangements. Scope changes are quoted in writing before the additional work begins.

A typical engagement

Three phases. Senior practitioner involvement at every stage.

Discover (week one to two)

The questions to be answered are written down. Data sources are mapped, access is secured, and any external data required is identified. A written analysis plan sets out the techniques proposed and the structure of the output. Where the data landscape is uncertain, a short diagnostic phase confirms what is workable before the main scope is agreed. Nothing analytical begins until the plan is signed off.

Design (week two to five)

Ingestion, cleansing and joining of the datasets in Python or SQL. Exploratory analysis surfaces patterns and tests the questions in the plan. Where a predictive or forecasting model is in scope, candidate techniques are selected and validated against held-out data, with uncertainty bands documented. The analytical questions are iterated with the client at the midpoint to confirm the direction of travel.

Deliver (week five to seven)

Dashboard and report build to the agreed audience. A walkthrough is delivered to the client team, with the senior analyst available for questions in the room. The reproducibility pack (code, data dictionary, methodology note) is handed over so that in-house technical staff can refresh the analysis as new data arrives. A defined period of post-delivery query support follows handover.
